Wilkes Men's Tennis Begins MAC Freedom Player with Victory at King's
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened MAC Freedom play in fine fashion cruising to an 8-1 victory over cross-town rival King's College Tuesday afternoon at the Kirby Park courts.
Wilkes moved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference matches while King's dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in league contests.
The Colonels raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play before taking five of six singles flights on way to the conference win.
The duo of
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) collected an 8-3 win at No. 1 pairs before wins from
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton)/
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) (8-4) at No. 2 and Rodneil Senson/
Nick Putney (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) (8-0) at No. 3.
Gibson earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles before Putney went 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Bosler, Senson and
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) then all earned straight set wins at No. 4-6 to seal the victory.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday with another MAC Freedom contest at Stevens Institute of Technology starting at 9:00 a.m.
