Arcadia's Second Half Run Leads to 16-7 win over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse

EDWARDSVILLE – A 9-0 run by visiting Arcadia University in the second half led the Knights to a 16-7 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) win over the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team Wednesday at Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes dropped to 1-2 in the MAC Freedom with the defeat and to 3-7 overall while Arcadia improved to 3-0 in the league and to 6-6 overall.

Arcadia took a 3-0 lead with three goals bunched between the 9:48 to 9:03 mark of the first quarter.

Savannah Bauman (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) put the Colonels on the scoreboard with 7:53 left in the quarter as she scored on a free position shot. Just over a minute later Bauman scored again on the free position to make it 3-2 for her 27th goal of the year. Following an Arcadia goal, Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) scored her 23rd goal of the season from Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI/The Tilton School) with 4:05 on the clock.

With 1:18 left in the first, Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) tallied a goal off an assist from Sydney Bernardi (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) to tie the score 4-4. The Knights answered with 42 seconds remaining to take a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.

Joly scored her first goal of the season with 12:16 left in the second to tie the game 5-5. Just over a minute later Arcadia found the net and then again at 6:56 to take a 7-5 lead. Lerch scored her second of the game with 3:01 left to end the second quarter scoring as the game went to half with the Knights leading 7-6.

Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) made seven saves in the first half for the Colonels while Emily Griffith made five saves for Arcadia.

The Knights took control in the third quarter with goals at 13:52, 10:10, 3:26, 0:32, and 0:08 to go ahead 12-6 with the five-goal frame.

Arcadia continued its run in the fourth quarter, extending it to nine goals with tallies at the 13:37, 11:28, 9:10, and 4:34 marks.

Lerch recorded her hat trick with 2:17 left in the game to make it 16-7.

Lerch, Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke), and Laura Bayzick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) led the Colonels with three ground balls. Lerch had six draw controls and Bayzick four while Lerch led with five caused turnovers.

Ashley Starkey led Arcadia with six goals while three other players all had four points.

Coughlin tied her season high with nine saves while Griffith ended up with 11 saves in the victory.

Wilkes led 15-12 in draw controls and the two sides each had 18 ground balls. Arcadia led 36-27 in total shots, 25-18 in shots on goal, and were 15-for 21 on clears. Wilkes went 11-for-18 in the clear game.

The Colonels will host DeSales University for Senior Day on Saturday at Schmidt Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
