Wilkes Softball Concludes 2022 Season with Home Split against Lycoming
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels wrapped up their 2022 season with a pair of games against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Lycoming.
The Colonels (14-16, 3-13 MACF) defeated the Warriors (9-25, 2-14) 3-2 game one, but the Warriors bats got to the Colonels pitching in game two in a 10-4 loss.
The Colonels took advantage of a Lycoming wild pitch to score their first run in the first inning of game one, with
Rhia Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) contributing to her pitching outing.
Rachel Pritchard (Wilmington, DE/Concord) scored on a throw to catch another Colonel stealing to make it 2-0 after one.
Jaime Martin (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) doubled in
Nicole Howell (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock Area) to make it 3-0 after two, and Aurand pitched four scoreless innings until the Warriors brought in a pair with a single to right center to close within one.
Aurand would continue to shut down the Warriors through their last two innings and earned a 3-2 victory with six strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA, while Kylie Russell took the loss for the Warriors with four strikeouts. The Warriors would strike back in game two, taking an early 3-0 lead after the top of the second.
Erin Cabry (York, PA/Central York) would hit an inside the park home run to make it 3-1 after two, but the Warriors broke the game wide open with a five-run third to take a 8-1 lead the Colonels wouldn't overcome.
Cabry would hit her second home run of the day to make it 8-2, while
Cheyenne Jenner (Montrose, PA/Elk Lake) singled in Howell to make it 8-3 after four. The Warriors would bring in runs with a double in the sixth and seventh, but the Colonels would take advantage of a dropped ball in the outfield to tack on one more run to finalize the 10-4 tally.
Cabry hit a pair of home runs, a career high for a game, tied her season high with the two home runs, and upped her total for her career to five. Jenner finished two of three on the day, while Cabry finished two of six.
With the split the Colonels have concluded their 2022 softball slate.
