Sorber Places 12th, Wilkes Women's Golf Seventh Overall at 2022 MAC Championship
FLEETWOOD, PA – The Wilkes University women's golf team placed seventh out of 10 teams at the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women's Golf Championship at Golden Oaks Golf Club Sunday, the best team finish for the Colonels at the conference event in team history. The Colonels matched their +106 (394) from Saturday again in round two to finish the Championship event at +212 (788).
Sarah Sorber (Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area) led the Colonels, placing 12th overall out of the field of 54 total golfers. She fired a +9 (81) to finish the tournament at a +21 (165). Her 81 is the best round in program history at the MAC Championship event and tied her own program record best round of an 81 that she shot on October 9th of this season at Huntsville Golf Club.
Cassidy Taylor (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) shot a +24 (96) today to move up four places and finish tied for 35th with a +57 (201). The score tied her career best round.
Gwen MacConnell (Great Bend, PA/Blue Ridge) shot a +27 (99) today moved up one spot and tied Taylor for 35th with a +57 (201) for the tournament.
Marissa Korea (Duryea, PA/Pittston Area) shot a +46 (118) today as she finished 44th with a two day +77 (221).
York College shot a +18 (306) today to win the team championship with a two round total of +55 (631). Alvernia University placed second with a +79 (655) following a +44 day. Stevenson University took third with a +89 (665) as the Mustangs were +29 today.
The 2022 MAC Individual Champion / Golfer of the Year was awarded in a four-hole playoff as York's Natalie Robson and Alvernia's Katie Lapinsky tied at a +9 (153) over 36 holes. Robson took home the honors by winning the four-home tie breaker.
Lapinsky earned the MAC Rookie of the Year honors as York's Eric Stauffer was the Coach of the Year.
Earning First Team All-MAC recognition were the top five finishers of Robson, Lapinsky, Alvernia's Yupha Muzyka, York's Jordan Koller, and Alvernia's McKylie Boreman. Second Team All-MAC went to sixth through tenth place finishers, Shelby Tapman of York, Casey Oppenheimer of Stevenson, Megan Miguel of Stevenson, Marin Dremock of Eastern University, and Anna More of York and Amanda Perez of Stevenson who tied for tenth.
Sorber finished just two shots shy of All-MAC honors.
