Wilkes Women's Tennis Falls in MAC Freedom Finals 5-1

EDGEWATER, N.J. – The 14-time defending MAC Freedom champions saw their title streak come to an end as the Wilkes University women's tennis team fell 5-1 to #1 seed Stevens Institute of Technology in the MAC Freedom title match Saturday afternoon at the Binghamton Raquet Club.

Wilkes concluded its season with a 10-7 overall record. Stevens captured its first MAC Freedom championship improving to 11-4 on the year and earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament next week. The loss overshadowed the dominance of the Colonel women's tennis program over the past 15 years dating back to 2006-07 when Wilkes captured its first title.

Wilkes' lone win came at No. 2 doubles as the team of Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona), both playing in their final match of their careers, bested Stevens' Isabella Dona and Alexis Fuda 8-7.

Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) was winning her No. 3 singles match 6-4, 4-3 before its was called unfinished due to Stevens capturing its fifth team point.
