Flagg Named Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Assistant Coach
WILKES-BARRE – Marching into the 2022-2023 season, Wilkes University women's ice hockey head coach
Dave LaBaff has announced
Caty Flagg as the Colonels new assistant coach.
Flagg joins Wilkes after signing a professional contract with the Buffalo Beauts as a goalie in the Premiere Hockey Federation last year. She brings coaching experience as she volunteered with the Islanders Hockey Club, the number one girl's hockey program in New England, where she learned from experienced coaches and coached her own teams and camps.
Beginning her college career at the University of New England, Flagg was a starting goalie for the school's ice hockey team. She was the leader for the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) in saves with 402, accumulating 700 overall for the season, that ranked 5
th overall in the country. Her .941 save percentage and 1.91 goal-against-average were ranked 3
rd and 4
th in the conference respectively. She rounded her time with the University of New England as the Goalie of the Year for the 2017-2018 season in the NEHC.
Flagg then played two more years of collegiate ice hockey at the University of Massachusetts Boston, leading the country in goals-against-average (1.78), save percentage (.942), and minutes played (1598.08). She finished her final season with 800 saves and five shutouts, both being 3
rd and 4
th in the country respectively. She was named the 2019-2020 NEHC Goalie of the Year, her second time receiving the honor.
From Reading, Mass., Flagg was named "Miss Hockey" by ESPN and was named the Boston Globe Player of the Year in 2016 while at Austin Prep.
Flagg is a 2020 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston with a degree in Exercise and Health Sciences. She begins her duties at Wilkes on August 11.
