Wilkes Women's Volleyball Loses in Three Sets to Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, PA – Wilkes University traveled to Cedar Crest College, where they were swept in three sets to the Falcons (11-25, 17-25, 17-25).

Cedar Crest got off to a fast start, going on a 10-2 run that would force Wilkes to call a timeout early in the first set. Sierra Hines (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer), Nicole Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, NY/Minisink Valley), and Kelsey Carroll (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) all had kills during the first set, but the Colonels would be unable to close the gap, as the Falcons took the first set 25-11.

The second set saw Cedar Crest going out to an early lead 8-1, before the Colonels would go on a 6-1 run that saw Wilkes capitalized on errors and a Fitzpatrick kill. The Falcons would go on a 9-1 run, extending their lead 18-9. Hope Ousey (Exton, PA/Henderson) would get a kill, while Hines would get multiple blocks down the stretch as Wilkes would fight to make the game 22-15. Cedar Crest would pull away, earning three out of the last five points to take the second set 25-17.

The third set saw both teams trade the lead, with Ousey and Alexis Reedy (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area) getting kills that kept the game tied at 11-11. Cedar Crest would then get back into their rhythm and go on an 8-2 run to get a 19-13 lead. The Colonels would fight back, with Emily Gentzel (Yaphank, NY/Bellport) service aces and an Alexis Reedy (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area) kill to get Wilkes within four points. The Falcons would end the series on a four-point run to finish the third set and take the series 25-17.

Fitzpatrick led the team with seven kills, with Ousey following behind her with six of her own. Cassel had 21 assists on the day. Hines led the Colonels with three blocks on the day, with Fitzpatrick and Allison Murie (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) both getting two blocks apiece.
