Lowe's Hat Trick Lifts Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Over Arcadia
 
COLMAR, PA – Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA) scored three goals to lift the Wilkes men's ice hockey team over Arcadia University 6-3, wrapping up their United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) weekend series with a clean sweep.
 
The Colonels improve to 8-7-1 overall, 6-5 in UCHC play, and 4-1 in the MAC. The Knights fell to 3-10-2 on the season, 3-7-2 in UCHC, and 2-2-2 in MAC play.
 
Wilkes came out hot in the first period when eight seconds into their first powerplay at 2:00 into the game, Lowe was able to find the back of the net. The Colonels stuck again at 4:04 when Ben Stefanini (Framingham, MA) took advantage of their second powerplay of the game, leading 2-0. Arcadia answered back at 11:20 during a powerplay and again at 11:54, finishing out the first period tied up 2-2. Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY) and Lowe each had three shots for Wilkes in the first period, followed by Nick Godfrey (Cedar Run, NJ), Stefanini, and Ryan Galvin (Atlanta, GA) who each had two. Jimmy O'Kane (Chicago, IL/Notre Dame Prep) tallied two assists in the first period and Joe Johnson (Midland, MI) and Lowe each had one. Goaltender Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY) ended the first period with 10 saves.
 
Parker Bolda led Arcadia in shots in the first period having three, and Donnie Feldman, Brett Schneider, James Spaargaren, Jared Shuter, and Kyle Peters each had two. Goalkeeper Ryan Burgess had six saves for the Knights in the period.
 
Arcadia was first to strike in the second period 42 seconds in when they scored their third goal of the game. Not even two minutes later at 2:30 into the period, Lowe earned his second goal of the game for Wilkes, tying the score back up at three. The Colonels regained the lead at 5:20 into the period with Nick Godfrey (Cedar Run, NJ) scoring during a powerplay. About ten minutes later, Stefanini found himself on a breakaway and was able to score a short-handed goal, bringing the Colonels to end the period up 5-3. Carlson and Stefanini each had five shots for Wilkes in the period. Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN) earned an assist in the period as well as Johnson and Carlson. Paterson-Jones finished out the period with 18 saves.
 
The Knights ended the second period with 26 shots and nine saves from goaltender Burgess.
 
Only 2:46 into the final period, Lowe was able to find his third goal of the game, giving Wilkes a 6-3 lead, and his first career hat trick. The Colonels were able to hold the Knights off in the third period, not allowing any goals. Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI), Stefanini, Lowe, and Galvin each had two shots in the period for the Colonels, and Paterson-Jones added nine more saves. O'Kane and Scott Mueller (Nashville, TN) each earned an assist in the final period.
 
Mike Kocsis, Cody Mastay, and Feldman led Arcadia in shots in the final period with two, and Burgess had 10 saves.
 
Paterson-Jones ended the game with a total of 37 saves for the Colonels allowing three goals, giving him a save percentage of 92.5%. With the 37 saves, Paterson-Jones ties his second highest career saves, which is also the second highest in a game in program history. Burgess finished the game with a total of 25 saves for the Knights allowing six goals, giving him a save percentage of 80.6%.
 
Wilkes won 40 of their attempted 78 faceoffs, with Max Cocchi (Ludlow, MA) and O'Kane each winning 12, followed by Billy Berry (Redding, CT) who earned nine, Carlson who earned six, and Erickson who earned one.
 
The Colonels had 31 shots on goal, led by Lowe who had five, followed by Stefanini, Carlson, and Godfrey who each had four. Arcadia had a total of 40 shots on goal, led by Jared Shuter who had six. Wilkes was able to take advantage and score on four of their six powerplays, while Arcadia scored on one of three.
 
The Wilkes men's ice hockey team returns home to play on January 27th when they host Lebanon Valley College at the Toyota SportsPlex, dropping the puck at 5:00 p.m.
