Wilkes Women's Swimming Opens Season 1-1 Against Moravian and Scranton
WILKES-BARRE- The Wilkes University women's swimming team began the 2023-24 season splitting its home tri-meet with Landmark Conference opponents Moravian University and the University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon at the Wyoming Valley CYC. The Colonels defeated Moravian 96-60 but lost 230-26 to Scranton.
The victory over the Greyhounds marks the first women's coaching victory for head coach
Christopher Paynter at Wilkes.

The team of
Audrey Cornell (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights),
Mina Tutko (Easton, PA/Easton Area),
Brynn Ullerich (Omaha, NE/Marian), and
Kiaya Daube (Scranton, PA/Holy Cross) made their collegiate debuts in the 200 Medley Relay to start the day. The team finished with a time of 2:14.01.
Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) made her collegiate debut in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:14.08.
Tutko placed third in the 50 Breaststroke out of five swimmers with a time of 35.58 for the best individual placement of the day for the Colonels.
The Colonels finished the day with the 200 Freestyle Relay as Burlew, Tutko, Ullerich, and Daube finished with a time of 1:54.02.
Wilkes started the season with a 1-1 showing while Scranton went 2-0 and Moravian 0-2.
The Colonels are back in action next Saturday in Grantham, Pa. for a tri-meet with Messiah University and Mount Saint Mary College (NY) at 1:00 p.m.
