Wilkes Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Finale to Marywood 5-1

SCRANTON – The Wilkes University field hockey team fell on the road at Pacer Turf Field Monday afternoon, losing to Marywood University by a score of 5-1 in its final non-conference matchup of the season.

The loss dropped the Colonels' record to 6-5 on the season. Marywood improved to 7-3. Wilkes now enters a stretch of six-straight Landmark games to close out the regular season. Their conference record currently stands at 1-2.

Midway through the first quarter, the Pacers struck first when Cydney Lahr broke through traffic in front of the net and potted her tenth goal of the season at 11:50.

Marywood tacked onto their lead less than two minutes later after being awarded back-to-back penalty corners. On the second attempt, Lauren Youngken gathered a pass from Lahr and beat Colonels goaltender Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) to give the Pacers a 2-0 lead at 13:36.

Three minutes into the second quarter, Eidle stopped a scoring chance by Lahr to keep the deficit at two goals.

Kellie Scott (Northport, ME/Kents Hill) delivered the Colonels' first shot of the game at 26:30, however she was stopped by Pacers goalie Lianna Horner. The first half would come to a close with Marywood in the lead 2-0.

Both teams traded penalty corners in the third quarter but were unable to capitalize. Going into the final frame, the score remained 2-0 Pacers.

Lahr extended the Marywood lead at 3:36 into the fourth quarter, firing a shot that found its way through a crowd of Wilkes defenders. Her second goal of the game made it a 3-0 contest.

Wilkes was able to create some sustained pressure in the Pacers' zone and were awarded four corners within a single minute of action. Caitlin Keim (Trevorton, PA/Line Mountain) got a shot past Horner but was ultimately stopped by Marywood defender Klaira Bievenour.

The Colonels' effort in the offensive zone finally paid off at 52:54 when a shot by Maura Hensel (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) produced a juicy rebound for Anmarie Lebron (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken), who knocked the ball out of midair and put the Colonels on the board, trailing 3-1.

Marywood responded right back at 54:17 when Youngken notched her second of the game.

The Pacers would add on one more goal at 58:31 with Belle Coleman scoring the 5-1 marker.

LeBron led the Colonels with a goal on two shots. Keim, Hensel and Scott all registered shots on goal as well. The Wilkes offense was awarded 11 penalty corners in total. In goal, Eidle recorded one save.

The Pacers' offense was largely carried by Lahr, who collected two goals and a pair of assists with four shots on goal. Youngken scored two goals on three total shots, while Horner made two saves in the win for Marywood.

The Colonels return home to Schmidt Stadium on Saturday when they play host to Landmark opponent Juniata in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
