Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls on Senior Day to Catholic 3-0

Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls on Senior Day to Catholic 3-0

EDWARDSVILLE - Two second-half goals saw Catholic past the Wilkes women's soccer team 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, as the Colonels celebrated Senior Day at Bruggeworth Field.

The Colonels fall to 3-6-6 on the year and 1-4-3 in Landmark Conference play, while Catholic improve to 9-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play.

Catholic opened the scoring at 19:48 as a long free kick from Sam Cesario beat goalkeeper Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) on one bounce and into the far corner of the net to make it a 1-0 game. The Cardinals took that advantage into halftime, outshooting the Colonels 8-1 in the first 45 minutes.

At 50:57, Catholic found the back of the net once again, as Emily Harkins' cross was headed home by Jordan Siok to double the lead. Peyton Coron put the game out of Colonel reach as she corralled a cross from Lauren Cerda and fired a shot into the goal to take a 3-0 Cardinal lead and victory.

Catholic outshot Wilkes in the contest 15-7, forcing five saves out of Landis. Lauren Lefchak (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) led the Colonels in shots with two.

Isabel Doherty led Catholic in shots, while goalkeeper Ava Reiger made four saves.

Before the match, the Colonels celebrated the careers of Landis, Lauren Sweeney (West Chester, PA/West Chester Rustin), Mia Scelsa (Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist), Gianna Picco (Waverly, NY/Waverly), and Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) as a part of the Senior Day festivities.

The Colonels will be back in action next Saturday as they host Goucher College in the final game of the regular season. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m.
