Wilkes Men's Swimming Earns Six Individual Wins, Two Relay Wins in Tri-Meet Sweep of Marywood and King's

SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's swimming team swept a tri-meet as its swimmers won six individual events and won both relays on Saturday at host Marywood University and also with cross-town rival King's College. The Colonels defeated Marywood 95-86 and King's 116-27.

Wilkes improved its overall record to 3-2 on the season with a tri-meet sweep.

The Colonels started the meet unchallenged in the 400 Medley Relay as the team of Ben Carro (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area), John Evans (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer), Mason McCoy (Essington, PA/Interboro), and Kirkland Matlock (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith) raced to a time of 4:47.19.

McCoy won the first individual event for Wilkes as he was first of four in the 1,000 Freestyle with a time of 12:29.95.

Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) then won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.60 over a field of seven swimmers.

Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) bested a field of four to win the 200 IM with a time of 2:20.92.

Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly) took first place in the 100 Freestyle in a field of seven as he finished in 54.24.

McCoy won his second individual event of the meet in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:52.66 over two other swimmers.

Evans won the 100 Breaststroke over two other swimmers with a time of 1:10.63.

Wilkes closed the meet by defeating a team from both Marywood and King's in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Dainty, Donato, Verosko, and Evans finished with a time of 3:46.15 for the victory.

The Colonels are back in the poll next Saturday at Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. at 1:00 p.m. for a dual meet.
