Wilkes Field Hockey Sees Season Come to an End in 5-0 Loss Against Scranton in Landmark Conference Championship First Round
 
SCRANTON, PA – Host the University of Scranton posted a 5-0 shutout victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Saturday night in the First Round of the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament at Weiss Field.
 
Wilkes saw its season come to an end with a 9-9 overall record. Scranton improved to 15-3 overall and advanced to the Landmark semifinals on Wednesday.
 
Scranton took an early 2-0 lead scoring back-to-back goals just :51 seconds apart four minutes into the contest. Julia Downing struck first followed by an unassisted goal from Cori Davis to give the Royals a 2-0 advantage after one quarter.
 
Scranton added to its lead in the fourth frame notching goals at 48:34, 51:12 and 52:27 to push the lead to 5-0 with under four minutes left in the contest. Davis posted her second tally of the game and Katie Redding and Ava DeNatale each scored for the Royals in the three-goal quarter.
 
Scranton outshot Wilkes 15-3 throughout including 13-2 in shots on goal. The Royals also garnered nine penalty corners to the Colonels' two attempts.
 
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with seven saves in goal for Wilkes while Gianna Travia made one stop to record the shutout in net for Scranton.
 
Wilkes finished with its most wins in a season since 2019 when the Colonels posted 10 victories and its first trip to the postseason since the 2018 campaign when the squad earned a berth in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
