Arcadia Has Strong Third Period to Earn Series Split with Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team lost 5-3 to visiting Arcadia University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action Saturday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex as the Knights scored three third period goals.

Wilkes earned the 5-2 victory yesterday as the two teams split the season series. The Colonels are now 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the UCHC while Arcadia improved 6-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the conference.

Charlotte Siksik started the scoring for the Knights with a goal 3:08 into the first period as she collected a turnover in the Colonels end. Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ/) answered back at the 9:48 mark to even the score at 1-1 with assists going to Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) and Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON). It was Patterson's first goal of the season.

Arcadia scored to take a 2-1 lead at the 18:14 mark of the first when Haylee Kos found the net from Kianna Saillant. The two teams went to the intermission with that scorer as the Knights had a 14-7 shots-on-goal advantage.

Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) scored her first collegiate goal to even the score at 2-2, 9:33 into the second as she found herself in on a breakaway after a nice clearing pass by Allie Spencer (Paradise, NL) as she also picked up her first collegiate assist.

The game went to the third period tied as Arcadia held a 10-8 advantage in shots during the second period.

Arcadia came out strong in the third period, ending the second and beginning the third on a five-minute power play following an interference major. Although the Knights did not score on the man-advantage, they did gain momentum and took the lead 2:59 into the third when Ariel Williamson scored to make it 3-2. Phoebe Roberts assisted as she collected a steal deep in the Colonels zone.

Just 56 seconds later at 3:55 the Knights made it 4-2 on a goal by Berklee Hibbard. Saillant and Kos were credited with assists on the play.

Wilkes tried to battle back and found a goal at 17:24 of the third as Patterson netted her second of the game. Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) and Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA) assisted to pull the Colonels within one late. The Colonels pulled the goaltender down one, but Arcadia iced the game with a goal at 18:58 by Roberts as she shot it from her own blueline and into the empty net. Bridgit Terry and Williamson assisted on the final goal.

Arcadia led 12-10 in third period shots and 36-25 for the game. Wilkes won 32 faceoffs compared to 29 for Arcadia with Ferry going 17-for-31 and Sabrina Kotlarczyk (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, QC) 8-for-13. Wilkes was strong on the penalty kill as the Knights went 0-for-5 on the power play with 13 total shots. The Colonels were 0-for-2 on their own power play with four shots.

Audrey Milne (London, ON) took the loss in net for Wilkes as she made 31 saves and allowed four goals. Jo Coates earned the win as she allowed three goals and made 22 saves for Arcadia.

The Colonels continue UCHC play on Wednesday when they travel to cross-town rival King's College for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop the day before Thanksgiving.
