WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Four Colonels reached double-digit points as
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) led Wilkes men's basketball with a double-double to earn a 90-64 victory at Lycoming College on Wednesday night.
With the victory the Colonels improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in Landmark play, while the Warriors fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in-conference.
The two teams stayed close early in the contest, the score even at 12-12 with less than three minutes played, before Wilkes began to pull away on a 8-2 run to make the score 20-14 with 11:23 to play in the half. Lycoming brought the game within a bucket after a 4-0 run, but
Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) brought momentum back in the Colonels' favor with a triple to kick-start a 20-6 run that gave the Colonels a 40-24 lead with just under four minutes to play in the half.
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) led the run with six of the 20 points.
Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) led the final 9-8 run with five points to give the Colonels a 49-32 lead going into the half. Lesko and Argento led the team with two three-pointers each in the half.
Wilkes started the second half hot with an 11-4 run to make it a 59-36 contest with 14:03 left to play in the game. Fisher and
Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) finished off the run each with three-point buckets. Wilkes cruised down the stretch, taking a 30-point lead with just under five minutes to go with the score 82-52 led once again by Fisher and Zvorsky, each scoring eight points in that stretch.
Izzi Metz cleared the bench with the Colonels up big and the Colonels comfortably defeated Lycoming 90-64.
Fisher led the Colonels with a 28-point, 11 rebound double-double, adding two assists. The senior made over half of his field goals going 12-20 and made each of his three free throws. His 28 points were career high. Lesko, Zvorsky and Argento were the other Colonels that made up the quartet of double-digit scorers, putting up 18, 13, and 12 points respectively. Lesko led the team with four assists.
Wilkes shot over 50% from the field, making 35 field goals of the 67 they attempted.
Mavin James and Isaiah Valentine shared the scoring crown for the Warriors each with 11 points. Hayden Pardoe led the team with eight rebounds and James led the team in assists with four.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday, December 9 as both Wilkes men's and women's basketball welcome Juniata College to the Marts Center for a Landmark Conference doubleheader. Tip off for the men's game is set for 2:00 p.m.
