Wilkes Men's Volleyball Falls to RV Elmira College
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) to the RV Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.
The Colonels move to 12-5 overall and the Soaring Eagles move to 8-2 on the season.
The first set was close with the score getting tied up seven times. The Colonels took the lead early in the set after a kill from
Noah Taylor (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) broke the tie. Wilkes was able to build a lead of three points, but Elmira was able to come back and claim the set. The Colonels had nine kills in the first set led by Taylor with five.
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) earned nine assists in the set.
Elmira had 10 kills in the first set.
In the second set, Wilkes was able to tie up the score three times with two kills from
Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) and a service ace from Shay. The Colonels had eight kills in the second set led by
Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) and L. Mages each with three. Shay added seven assists in the set.
The Soaring Eagles had 14 kills in the second set.
The Colonels were able to out-kill Elmira 14-13 in the third set and earn two three-point runs. L. Mages led the way with kills in the set having six, followed by Shafer with four and Taylor with two. Shay added 13 assists in the set.
Elmira has 13 kills in the third set.
Wilkes had a total of 31 kills in the match led by L. Mages and Shafer who each had nine. They were followed by Taylor with eight. Shay had a total of 29 assists.
The Soaring Eagles had a total of 37 kills in the match and 32 assists.
Jacob Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) had the most blocks in the match for the Colonels with four followed by L. Mages with three and Shafer with two.
Sam Winter (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had the most digs in the match for Wilkes with six.
The Wilkes men's volleyball team continues their season on Wednesday when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match.
