43 Kills Pushes Wilkes Men's Volleyball Past Neumann
ASTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team coasted through three sets against the Neumann University Knights earning a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 27-25) non-conference victory on Thursday night.
The Colonels improve to 14-6 overall and the Knights move to 5-15 on the season.
In the first set, Wilkes had three three-point runs that helped them to keep the lead throughout the whole set. The Colonels had 12 kills in the set, led by
Noah Taylor (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) with four.
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had 11 assists.
Neumann had nine kills in the first set.
The second set was closer with Wilkes claiming the set by two, but
Paul Binner (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) was able to get the kill to secure the set. The Colonels started out the set on a three-point run after two kills from Binner on the first two points, which led him to have eight kills in the set. Shay added 12 assists in the set.
The Knights had 10 kills in the second set.
Wilkes claimed the third set after earning 27 points, 16 of which came from kills.
Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) had the most kills in the set for the Colonels with six followed by
Logan Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) with five. Shay added 16 assists in the set.
Neumann had eight kills in the third set.
The Colonels had a total of 43 kills in the match, led by Binner with 11. He was followed by Shafer with eight and
Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) with seven. Shay had a total of 39 assists in the match. Wilkes had 39 digs in the match led by
Alex Derk (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) with eight and Shay with six.
The Knights had a total of 27 kills in the match and 39 digs.
Wilkes had a total of eight service aces led by Binner with four. Binner also had two blocks in the match along with Shay and Shafer who each had one.
Neumann had two service aces in the match and six blocks.
The Wilkes men's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Dallas, Pa. for a tri-match facing Olivet College at 1:00 p.m. and Misericordia University at 3:00 p.m. for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match.
