Two Colonels Named All-MAC Women's Ice Hockey; Barcless Co-Defensive Player of the Year, LaBaff Coach of the Year
ANNVILLE, PA – Two Colonels were selected to the 2022-21 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Team with
Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ) winning Co-Defensive Player of the Year and
Dave LaBaff earning the Coach of the Year award as announced by the conference this Thursday morning. Barcless was named First Team All-MAC while
Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) was selected to the Second Team.
Barcless is the first women's ice hockey player to win a major award for the Colonels and selected to All-MAC First Team in program history. This is also the third time she has been selected to the All-MAC team as she was on the Second-Team in 2020-21 and an Honorable Mention in 2019-2020. The senior accomplished this by holding a career-high 37-blocked shot on the season, placing her fourth in the conference, to help Wilkes hold a 3.84 goals-allowed per game. Barcless also had five goals and five assists during her senior season.
Kaczorowski earns her first All-MAC selection in her career as a forward. The junior led the team with nine goals on the year, the most in a single season for the program and tied for sixth in the MAC, and added five assists as well. She also had 16 blocked shots and won 139 face-offs this season.
LaBaff completes his first season as the head coach of the Wilkes women's ice hockey team by winning the MAC Coach of the Year award. He helped the Colonels achieve milestones in their programs history, which includes: most goals (37), assists (49), shots (612), power-play goals (10), goals-per-game (1.48), assists-per-game (1.96), and shots on goal per-game (24.48) in a single season with most shots-on-goal in a single game (56 vs King's on January 31) added to those milestones as well. LaBaff shares this distinction with his coaching staff, which includes assistant coaches
Caty Flagg and
Hannah Brady.
