Wilkes Men's Volleyball Drops MAC Matchup at Stevenson
STEVENSON, MD – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-20) to the Stevenson University Mustangs in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Wednesday night.
The Colonels move to 15-9 overall and 1-5 in the MAC, and the Mustangs move to 9-13 on the season and 4-2 in conference.
Wilkes had six kills in the first set with
Paul Binner (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) having two and
Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley),
Noah Taylor (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional),
Jacob Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central), and
Lucas Mages (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois Central) each with one.
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had six assists in the set.
Stevenson had 13 kills in the first set.
In the second set, the Colonels were able to go on three two-point runs in one of which Shafer had back-to-back kills. Wilkes was able to earn eight kills in the set, led by Shafer with five. He was followed by Taylor with two and Binner with one. Shay added eight assists in the set.
The Mustangs had 14 kills in the second set.
The third set was kicked off for the Colonels after a service ace from L. Mages. Towards the end of the set, Wilkes went on a five-point run which was started by two kills from J. Mages. The Colonels had 10 kills in the set, led by Shafer and J. Mages each with three. Shay added six assists in the set.
Stevenson had 18 kills in the third set.
The Colonels had a total of 24 kills in the match led by Shafer with nine. He was followed by Binner, Taylor, and J. Mages each with four. Shay had 20 assists in the match. L. Mages led the team in digs with nine and Binner followed with five.
The Mustangs had a total of 45 kills in the match and 41 digs.
Wilkes had two service aces in the match with one each from Taylor and L. Mages. Binner and J. Mages each had two blocks in the match and Shay had one.
Stevenson had five service aces in the match and five blocks.
The Wilkes men's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday when they take a trip across town to take on the host King's College at 12:00 p.m. and Hood College at 2:00 p.m. for a MAC tri-match.
