Show's Walk-Off Slugs Wilkes Baseball Past King's 16-15 in 11

Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) hit a two-run single in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Wilkes University baseball team completed a comeback to defeat cross-town rival King's College 16-15 in extra innings Friday in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game at Bruggeworth Field. Show also pitched the final three innings to earn the win on the mound in the game.
Wilkes, who had 22 hits in the game, improved to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference with the victory. King's dropped to 7-10 overall and to 1-6 in the MAC Freedom.
The Monarchs gained a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with the leadoff hitter reaching on an error and coming in on a single through the left side two batters later.
The Colonels answered in the bottom of the first as
Todd Kolbicka (Hanover Twp., PA/Hanover) led off with a walk and then came around to score on an RBI double to right center by
Connor Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman).
Wilkes took the lead in the bottom of the second as
AJ Brosious (Laurys Station, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) began the inning with a double.
Devin Markert (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) reached on an error and with two outs Kolbicka singled to load the bases. Morgan then doubled to left center to bring in both Brosious and Markert. Kolbicka then scored when
Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) reached on an error by the shortstop as Wilkes took a 4-1 lead.
King's answered with seven runs on seven hits and one error in the top of the third to take an 8-4 lead.
Brosious again doubled in the bottom of the third and moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a double over the right fielder's head by Markert to make it 8-5.
Zach Day hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth over the right centerfield fence to increase the Monarch's lead back to four runs at 9-5. Wil Hronich led off the top of the fifth with a solo homer to leftfield to make it 10-5 for King's.
In the bottom of the fifth Show doubled to left center and moved to third on a single through the left side by
Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) who hit for Brosious. Markert then singled through the right side to bring in Show to make it 10-6.
Kolbicka led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to third then was safe at second on an error by the shortstop as Morgan reached first. Luksic then drove a two-run double to left center to score both Kolbicka and Morgan.
Darren Kerdesky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) laid down a bunt single to advance Luksic to third and then Luksic scored on Show's sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 10-9 heading to the seventh.
King's added back to its lead in the top of the seventh as they used a single and four walks to score two runs before a pitching change. Two more runs scored on a walk and a single to make the lead 14-9.
The Colonels bats brought them back even in the bottom of the eighth. Morgan singled then Luksic reached on a catcher's interference. Kerdesky then singled to load the bases. Following a pitching change, Show hit a two-run double to left to make it 14-11 as Morgan and Luksic scored. Johnston grounded out to advance the runners and then
Chase Vrabel (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) hit an RBI groundout to score Kerdesky.
Max Alessi (Wallenpaupack, PA/Wallenpaupack) then hit a pinch hit single up the middle to bring Show in to make it 14-13.
Jason Spezzaferra (Maywood, NJ/Hackensack) then singled on a ball hit softly to third base.
Jake Cambria (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia) pinch ran for Alessi and came into tie the game when Kolbicka reached on an error by the second baseman.
Chase Yochem hit a solo home run to left field to lead off the top of the 11th inning to put King's ahead 15-14.
With one out in the bottom of the 11th Morgan singled to shortstop and Luksic singled through the left side. Kerdesky kept it going with a single to right.
Peyton Schuck (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) pinch ran for Luksic at second as Show came up and hit a walk-off single to left center as Morgan and Schuck crossed the plate to win 16-15.
Tony Molitoris (Hanover Twp., PA/Holy Redeemer) started on the mound for Wilkes, going 2.1 innings allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits with one strikeout.
Ryan Sanderson (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) then went 2.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Tyler Hoedl (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) entered to start the sixth and went one-plus innings allowing four runs on one hit with four walks and two strikeouts.
Sawyer Kemp (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) went 2.0 innings only allowing inherited runners to score as he gave up one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Show (1-0) earned the win as he pitched the final 3.0 innings allowing one run on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts.
Matt Martin started on the mound for King's and went 4.0 innings allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Quin Acchione went 2.0 innings in relief, allowing four runs (three earned) with one strikeout. Josh Kilvitis went one-plus innings allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits with one walk. Adin Hoderewski (1-2) took the loss pitching the final 3.1 innings for King's as he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Show was 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI's in the game. Morgan went 4-for-7 with three RBI's and three runs. Kerdeksy was 3-for-7 while Kolbicka, Luksic, Brosious, and Markert all had two hits.
Day was 4-for-5 with five RBI's and Hronich was 4-for-6 with three RBI's for the Monarchs.
The two sides will finish their MAC Freedom three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at King's College with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
