Penn State Behrend Takes 4-1 Victory over Wilkes Baseball

FORT PIERCE, FL – The Wilkes University baseball team continued its Spring Break Trip Sunday dropping a 4-1 decision to Penn State Behrend.

Wilkes dropped to 3-3 overall with the loss while Penn State Behrend improved to 2-2.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning following a walk, wild pitch and a double.

The Colonels tied the game in the top of the fourth as Darren Kerdesky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) walked and stole second. Chase Vrabel (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) drove in Kerdesky with a single to right field.

Penn State Behrend scored three runs on three hits and one error in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-1 lead.

Wilkes threatened in the top of the ninth, working a bases loaded situation as Kerdesky singled, Vrabel walked, and Jake Cambria (Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia) walked. Joe Lang entered and recorded a strikeout to earn the save.

Ethan Fuller (Smyrna, GA/Campbell) made his collegiate debut on the mound with the start for Wilkes. He went 2+ innings allowing one run on one hit with seven walks and three strikeouts. Colby Butczynski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke) (0-1) made his Colonels pitching debut as he went 4.1 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with two strikeouts. Tyler Hoedl (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) continued his strong start to the season pitching a scoreless final 1.2 innings.

Jeff Zick had a no decision for the Lions as he started and went 6.0 innings allowing one run on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Evan Bromley (1-0) earned the victory pitching a scoreless seventh. Sawyer Prince went the next 1.2 innings before Lang earned the last out.

Kerdesky was 2-for-4 at the plate for Wilkes. Mac Ciocco was 2-for-2 with two RBI's and two walks for Penn State Behrend while Isaac Stouffer was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wilkes will enjoy the day off tomorrow in Florida before returning Tuesday against Thiel College at 12:00 p.m.
