Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Marywood
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team fell 6-5 to the Marywood University Pacers on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Schmidt Stadium.
 
The Colonels fall to 1-4 overall and the Pacers move to 1-3 on the season.
 
Marywood struck first, scoring the first goal of the game almost two minutes into the quarter. Wilkes answered back scoring two goals in two minutes. The first goal was from sophomore Joseph Kozlowski (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) with an assist from Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic), and the second goal came from Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel). At the end of the first quarter, Kozlowski and Austin Seames (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) had the most shots for the Colonels each with four. Wilkes outscored Marywood 15-7 in the quarter. Goalkeeper Joseph Marino (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) earned two saves.
 
The Pacers had seven shots in the first quarter and goalkeeper Colin Trainor had four saves.
 
In the second quarter the Pacers were able to score four goals, taking a 5-3 lead over the Colonels. Wilkes was able to put one away in the quarter, with a goal from Kozlowski assisted by Kadis. The Colonels had nine shots in the quarter, with Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) and Kozlowski each with two. Marino added two saves in the period.
 
Marywood had 13 shots in the second period and Trainor added two saves.
 
Wilkes and Marywood were each able to score one goal in the third quarter, entering the fourth with the Pacers leading 6-4. Hartka scored for the Colonels and the team was able to get eight shots off, with three coming from Jacob Kudysch (Stratford, CT/Frank Scott Bunnell). Marino had seven saves in the quarter.
 
The Pacers had 13 shots in the third quarter and Trainor added three saves.
 
Wilkes was able to score once more in the game with a goal from Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) and an assist from Kadis, but were unable to pass Marywood, ending the game with a 6-5 loss to the Pacers. The Colonels outshot Marywood 8-4 in the fourth quarter led by Kudysch with three. Marino had two saves in the quarter.
 
Marywood had four shots in the fourth quarter and Trainor had one save.
 
The Colonels outshot the Pacers in the game 40-37. Kozlowski had the most shots for Wilkes with seven, followed by Kudysch and Seames who each had six. Wilkes was 4-14 in face-offs with Henry O'Connor (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) and Luke Wawrzynek (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) each winning two. Marywood was 10-14 in face-offs.
 
Wilkes had a total of 41 groundballs in the game, led by Warns with six. Brendan Keegan (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush) and Michael Rauch (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) each had five groundballs. Marywood had a total of 40 groundballs in the game. Opromolla and Kadis each had three caused turnovers in the game, and Hunter Riley (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa Central) and Keegan each had two.
 
Marino had 13 saves in the game for the Colonels with a save percentage of 68.4% while Trainor had 10 saves for the Pacers with a save percentage of 66.7%.
 
The Wilkes men's lacrosse team returns to action on March 18 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Manhattanville College for a non-conference game.
