Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Drops Senior Day Matchup Against Montclair State
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team fell 23-4 against the Montclair State University Red Hawks during a non-conference senior day matchup on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Colonels move to 2-11 overall and the Red Hawks improve to 7-6 on the season.
 
Montclair was dominant in the first quarter, scoring eight goals that went unanswered. Wilkes had four shots in the quarter with two from Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) and one each from Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) and Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic). Goalkeeper Joseph Marino (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) had six saves on 14 shots on goal.
 
The Red Hawks had 23 shots in the first quarter and goalkeeper David Metzger had three saves on three shots on goal.
 
The Colonels were able to find the net once in the second quarter with a goal from Hartka and an assist from Blake Billingsley (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata). The Red Hawks went on to score six goals in the quarter bringing them to a 14-1 lead over Wilkes at half. The Colonels had six shots in the second quarter and Marino added three saves on nine shots on goal.
 
Montclair had 14 shots in the second quarter and Metzger had two saves on three shots on goal.
 
Wilkes was able to score again in the third quarter after Jacob Kudysch (Stratford, CT/Frank Scott Bunnell) found the net off an assist from Austin Seames (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional). The Red Hawks again went on to score six goals in the quarter. The Colonels had six shots in the third quarter and Cole Bourgeois (Green Island, NY/LaSalle Institute) had four saves on 10 shots on goal.
 
The Red Hawks had 14 shots in the third quarter, and one save on two shots on goal.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Colonels were able to score twice. Both goals came from Henry O'Connor (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney), the first off an assist from Hartka and the second off an assist from Opromolla. Montclair went on to score three more goals before the end of the game, securing their 23-4 win over Wilkes. The Colonels had six shots in the quarter and Nicholas DeVitis (Conshohocken, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) had four saves on seven shots on goal.
 
Montclair had 13 shots in the fourth quarter and goalkeeper Owen Torrey had zero saves on two shots on goal.
 
The Colonels had a total of 29 ground balls in the game, led by Michael Rauch (Jackson, NJ/Jackson), Hunter Riley (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa Central), and Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) each with four. The Red Hawks had a total of 50 ground balls in the game.
 
Wilkes had a total of three caused turnovers in the game with Opromolla, Riley, and Warns each having one. Montclair had a total of 11 caused turnovers in the game.
 
The Colonels were 22-27 on clears and won a total of seven face-offs with Luke Wawrzynek (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) winning six and Bradley Anacreon (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) winning one. The Red Hawks were 22-22 on clears and won a total of 24 face-offs.
 
The Wilkes men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Misericordia University for a 7:00 p.m. Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup.
