Keegan Breaks Single-Season Caused Turnovers Record in Wilkes Men's Lacrosse's Loss to DeSales
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Junior Brendan Keegan (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush) broke the single-season caused turnovers record with 26 during Wilkes University men's lacrosse team's 21-1 loss to the DeSales University Bulldogs on Wednesday night.
 
The Colonels move to 3-13 on the season and 1-6 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom). The Bulldogs improve to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
 
The first quarter was fairly even with DeSales having 11 shots in the quarter and Wilkes having 10. The Bulldogs were able to find the goal three times in the quarter, but the Colonels were not, ending the quarter with DeSales up by three. Joseph Marino (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) earned five saves on eight shots on goal.
 
DeSales had 11 shots in the quarter and two saves on two shots on goal.
 
The Bulldogs dominated the Colonels in the third quarter scoring eight unanswered goals bringing their lead to 11-0 at the half. Wilkes had seven shots in the second quarter and Marino added six saves on 14 shots on goal.
 
The Bulldogs had 20 shots in the quarter and two saves on two shots on goal.
 
Wilkes was able to score once in the third quarter with a goal from Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel), but DeSales was able to score seven more leading the Colonels 18-1. The Colonels had eight shots in the quarter and Marino added two saves on nine shots on goal.
 
DeSales had 15 shots in the quarter and four saves on five shots on goal.
 
The Colonels' fate was sealed after the Bulldogs went on to score three more goals in the fourth quarter, earning a 21-1 victory over Wilkes. Wilkes had 11 shots in the quarter and Cole Bourgeois (Green Island, NY/LaSalle Institute) earned two saves on five shots on goal.
 
The Bulldogs had 10 shots in the fourth quarter and five saves on five shots on goal.
 
Wilkes had a total of 37 ground balls in the game led by Marino with seven, Hunter Riley (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa Central) with five, and Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) with four. DeSales had a total of 46 ground balls in the game.
 
The Colonels were 20-28 on clears and won a total of eight face-offs with Bradley Anacreon (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) winning six and Luke Wawrzynek (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) winning two. The Bulldogs were 23-29 on clears and won a total of 17 face-offs.
 
Wilkes had a total of nine caused turnovers in the game led by Keegan with three and Michael Rauch (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) with two. DeSales had a total of 10 caused turnovers in the game.
 
The Wilkes men's lacrosse team concludes their season on Saturday when they travel across town to take on King's College at 1:00 p.m. for a MAC Freedom contest.
