Wilkes Men's Soccer Voted Ninth in Landmark Preseason Poll
Towson, MD – The Wilkes University men's soccer team has been selected to finish ninth in the 2023 Landmark Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll released by the conference office this afternoon.
The Colonels earned 22 points in their first appearance in the annual survey of Landmark coaches. Wilkes competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) last season, finishing with a 7-9-3 overall record under head coach Michael Piranian.
After finishing first place in the 2022 Landmark Conference regular season, Catholic University claims the top spot in the preseason polls with 81 points and nine first place votes. The Cardinals were also voted 16th in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Defending champion Scranton comes in second place with 66 points and one first place vote. Wrapping up the top five schools are Elizabethtown, Lycoming and Drew, who collected 62, 61 and 52 points respectively. Goucher squeezes into sixth place with 36 points, just ahead of Moravian's 33 points. Juniata received 24 points, edging Wilkes for eighth place. Susquehanna rounds out the poll with 13 points.
The Colonels kick off their 2023 season on Friday September 1 at 4:30 p.m. as they host non-conference opponent Penn State Berks. The Colonels embark on their first season of conference play in the Landmark at Bruggeworth Field against Susquehanna University on Saturday September 23 at 1:00 p.m.
