Wilkes Field Hockey Powers Past Elmira 8-0

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Visiting Wilkes University raced out to a 6-0 halftime lead as six different Colonels scored on way to a 8-0 shutout at Elmira College Wednesday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center in non-conference field hockey action.

Wilkes improved to 6-3 overall while Elmira dropped to 1-3 overall on the season. The six wins is already the most victories in a season since the 2019 year when the Colonels finished 10-9 overall.

Wilkes wasted little time finding the scoring column as Anmarie Lebron (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) found the back of the cage just 3:!5 into the first quarter. Devon Donley (Dauphin, PA/Bishop McDevitt) added to the lead scoring off an assist from Morgan Millard (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg Area) three minutes later. Millard then cashed in on her first goal of the afternoon thanks to a helper from Lexie Nevel (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) at 12:25 before Nevel and Kellie Scott (Northport, ME/Kents Hill) scored at 24:55 and 26:23 to up the advantage to 5-0. Caitlin Keim (Trevorton, PA/Line Mountain) finished off the scoring tear for the Colonels in the first half notching the first of her two goals in the game with under two minutes left in the first half.

Keim and LeBron each scored their second tallies of the game in the third and fourth quarters respectively to round out the 8-0 shutout road victory.

Wilkes was dominant in all aspects of the game evident by the 40-0 shot advantage throughout. The offense continually put pressure on the Elmira defense garnering 21 penalty corners and holding the Soaring Eagles to none.

Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) recorded her third shutout of the season not being tested in the contest.

Wilkes returns home for Homecoming on Saturday hosting Landmark Conference foe Moravian University at 5:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
