Roginski, Swain, and Blomquist Record Two-Goal Games as Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Shutout Arcadia 7-0
WILKES-BARRE –
Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI),
Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ), and
Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) each recorded two-goal performances and
Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) earned his first career shutout as the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team defeated visiting Arcadia University 7-0 at the Toyota SportsPlex Saturday evening in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
The victory completed the home-and-home series sweep for the Colonels after a 3-2 overtime victory yesterday over the Knights. Wilkes is now 11-4-0 overall and 9-3-0 in the UCHC following the win. Arcadia is 5-9-2 overall and 1-8-2 in the league after the road loss.
It was a dominant performance for Wilkes from start to finish as the Colonels outshot Arcadia 53-13 in the game.
Swain started the scoring just 34 seconds into the game as
Christopher Paige (Massena, NY/) assisted. The 1-0 lead stood at the first intermission.
An explosive second period saw the Colonels score five times to increase the lead to 6-0.
Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) scored his sixth of the season on the power play at the 4:37 mark as
Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN/) and Swain assisted. Blomquist then scored 10:02 into the period to make it 3-0 with assists coming from
Lorenzo Marcolin (Saratoga Springs, NY/) and
Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO/).
Roginski tallied two times within 25 seconds at 13:03 and 13:25 to make it 5-0 and raise his goal total for the year to seven. The first goal was assisted by
Billy Berry (Redding, CT) and Jungwirth and Berry assisted on the second goal.
Swain capped the second period scoring as he found the net for the second time in the game with just 22 ticks left. The power play goal was assisted by Jungwirth and Berry. The two goals moved him into a tie for fourth in program history for a single season with 15.
Blomquist scored his second of the game and season as the lone third period goal at the 2:55 mark with assists coming from the sticks of Jordan and
Steven Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ/).
Wilkes went 2-for-7 on the power play and held Arcadia scoreless at a 0-for-3 mark on its power play opportunities.
Perna earned his first career shutout as he stopped all 13 of the shots he faced by the Knights. The junior improved to 5-1-0 on the season.
Ryan Burgess made 22 saves during the first two periods for Arcadia. Jeb Lindy stopped 24 shots in the third period for the Knights.
Wilkes led in the faceoff circle 39-24 with Berry winning 17 and
Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) 12 to lead the way.
Jimmy O'Kane (Chicago, IL/Notre Dame Prep) and Swain led the Colonels with seven shots on goal each. Jungwirth and Berry each had three assists.
The Colonels begin their final non-conference series of the season hosting SUNY Canton at the Toyota SportsPlex on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The series will conclude this coming Friday in Canton, N.Y. at 7:00 p.m.
