Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Sweep Stevenson with Four Goal Third Period

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's ice hockey team scored four goals in the third period and reached ten wins for the first time in program history with a 6-1 win over Stevenson University at the Toyota SportsPlex on Sunday night.

The Colonels improve to 10-6-1 overall on the year and 8-6-1 in UCHC competition with the win, while Stevenson drop to 3-16-0 on the season with the loss and 3-11-0 in conference play.

The Mustangs struck first off the stick of Carleigh Barwick at 11:06 in the first period. A few minutes later, Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) tipped in a shot from Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT) to bring the Colonels level at one. Both teams went into the break deadlocked at 1-1.

Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) put Wilkes ahead with a powerful slapshot early in the second period for her first goal of the day, assisted by Kayli Dubé. The first year forward's goal carried the Colonels into the final frame with a 2-1 advantage.

The Colonels started the third period short-handed, with penalties to Ferry and Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON) both for tripping. While shorthanded, Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) buried a dazzling individual effort in the back of the net, spinning past defenders to give the Colonels a 3-1 lead 4:43 into the third period. Bouchard's goal opened the flood gates for the Wilkes offense, as Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA) added another goal on the power play at 11:18 on assists by Ferry and Wierdsma to give the Colonels a 4-1 lead.

Ferry added her second of the day at 13:06 with assists from Bouchard and Milica Velcek (Novi Sad, Serbia) to boost the lead to 5-1, while Sabrina Kotlarczyk (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, QC) added the sixth and final goal of the day a minute later on the power play to take a 6-1 win. Bouchard and Bouma added assists on the final goal.

Ferry led the team at +3 (2 G, 1 A) and went 16-22 from the faceoff circle. Bouchard's two assists set a new program record for assists in a single season, now at 10 on the year. Audrey Milne (London, ON) made 17 saves in net. The Colonel offense was 2-3 on the power play and went 0-4 on the penalty kill.

Barwick scored the lone goal for the Mustangs, while Emma DeMan led the team with four shots. Abby Smith made a game-high three blocks while Olivia DeGuire made 29 saves in net.

The Colonels welcome Albertus Magnus College to the Toyota SportsPlex for their next contest on Friday, January 26 with puck drop set for 5:00 p.m.
