Wilkes Field Hockey Fall in Overtime at Juniata
HUNTINGDON, PA - The Wilkes field hockey team faced a narrow loss to Juniata on Saturday with a 3-2 overtime loss.
The Colonels opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal by Olivia Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West), marking her first of the season. The Eagles responded just three minutes later with a goal by Mallory Prince to even the score at one. Courtney Keim scored the second goal of the game for the Colonels, also her first of the season to regain the lead. A goal by Juniata's Caitlin Steffie in the 57th minute even the score once again, forcing the game into overtime. The Eagles struck first in overtime with a goal by Sydney Whitter to secure the win for Juniata.
Keim, Gayoski and Morgan Millard (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg Area) all had shots for the Colonels throughout the game. In addition to her goal, Gayoski also recorded a defensive save during the match. In goal, Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) recorded five saves.
The Colonels will be playing their next match at home this Tuesday, October 15 against the University of Scranton at 7 p.m.
