Wilkes Men's Swimming Sweeps Opening Tri-Match at Marywood
SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's swimming team earned a pair of victories to begin its 2024 schedule in a tri-match at Marywood University Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels earned a 150-41 win over the host Pacers before posting a 100-34 victory over King's College.

The 200 freestyle relay team of
Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly),
Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia),
Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest) and
Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) took home first place with a time of 1:37. In the 200 medley relay Dainty,
Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), Smargiassi and Donato also won first place with a time of 1:46.57.
Caleb Keener (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) won the 1000 freestyle at 11:45.24 as well as the 500 freestyle at 5:36.71. Miller posted a win at the 200 freestyle at 1:54.74 while teammate
John Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) finished second at 2:05.11. Dainty took home the win in the 100 backstroke at 58:76 and the 100 butterfly at 58.27. Piotrowski won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.32 while Smargiassi claimed the win at the 200 butterfly at 2:23.44.
Donato proved to be the best at the 50 freestyle at 24.40, while Miller was a winner at the 100 freestyle at 53.32. Falcone took gold at the 200 backstroke finishing at 2:24.07, and Piotrowski won the 200 breaststroke at 2:34.90 and the 200 IM at 2:16.68.
Wilkes returns to the pool on Saturday traveling to Moravian University for a Landmark Conference dual meet staring at 11:00 a.m.
