Wilkes Men's Swimming Sweep Home Tri-Meet
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes men's swim team dominated their first home tri-meet of the season with wins over Goucher and Lebanon Valley College.
The Colonels defeated Goucher by a score of 133-65 and Lebanon Valley with a score of 125-98. Wilkes tallied nine first place finishes and five second place finishes.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the Colonels took first with a time of 1:46.34. On the relay was Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton), Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), and Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly). For the 200 yard freestyle, Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest) took first with a time of 1:53.68 and John Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) took second with a time of 2:18. Caleb Keener (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) took second in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:24.08.
Piotrowski took first in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 27.53 and Smargiassi placed first in the 200 yard butterfly by a time of 2:14.30. In the 50 yard freestyle, Dainty came in first at 23.96 and Donato took second by a time of 24.30. In the 100 yard freestyle, Miller placed first with a time of 52.64 and Dainty took second with a time of 53.63. Piotrowski finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.99 and Smargiassi placed first in the 50 yard butterfly at a time of 25.93. Lastly, Dainty finished first in the 200 yard IM by a time of 2:16.18 and Piotrowski came in second with a time of 2:18.56.
The Colonels will be hosting another tri-meet next Saturday, November 9. They will be taking on King's and Stevenson with the meet scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
