Wilkes Men's Basketball Suffer First Loss of Season Against Catholic
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes men's basketball team fell to Catholic 78-72 to mark their first loss of the season on Saturday.
Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) led the team in points with 17 apiece, while Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) had 14 and Colin Ackerman (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) recorded 11 to round out the double digit points. Lesko also led in rebounds with eight, and Merrifield, Argento, and Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) each had five. In assists, Lesko recorded five and Merrifield had four along with the team high four steals. Argento tallied one block and three steals.
In the first half, the Colonels went 11-29 from the field, 6-17 on three points and 7-8 from the free throw line. In the second half, Wilkes was 12-34 from the field, 4-16 on three point shots and 9-14 from the free throw line. The Colones scored 16 points off turnovers compared to Catholic's 11, and 22 points in the paint, along with six second chance points. With five different lead changes, this proved to be a close matchup between the Colonels and the Cardinals.
The Colonels will be on the road this Tuesday, November 26 at Marywood for a 6 p.m. match.
