Nau Scores Twice as Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Wins Seventh Straight with 5-1 Decision Over Misericordia
WILKES-BARRE –
Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC) scored twice to lead the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to a 5-1 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory over host Misericordia University Saturday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex.
Wilkes captured its seventh straight victory in the process improving to 7-1 overall and remaining perfect in MAC play at 7-0. Misericordia fell to 0-5-3 overall and 0-4-2 in league games.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead after one thanks to a goal from
Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI) off a pass from
Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO) 9:34 into the first period.
Back-to-back power play goals from the Colonels pushed the advantage to 3-0 mid way through the second period as Nau scored first at 4:09 off assists from
Leyton Pettypiece (Rochester, MI) and
Joe Johnson (Midland, MI) then a strike from
Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ) at 5:50 off helpers from Roginski and
Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN).
Misericordia added its lone goal with :17 left in the second as Wilkes led 3-1 after two.
Nick Del Gaizo (Basking Ridge, NJ) notched his first goal of the season at 12:26 of the third and Nau fnished off his two-goal night with an unassisted score to finish off the Colonels scoring at five six minutes later.
Duncan Rolleman (New Hamburg, ON) recorded the win in goal for the Colonels finishing with 24 saves. Anthony Shrum suffered the defeat in net for Misericordia making 33 stops.
Wilkes remains idle through the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to the SportsPlex on Friday, December 6
th for a MAC matchup with Stevenson University starting at 5:00 p.m.
