Wilkes Men's Swim Concluded Electric City Invitational with Fourth Place Finish

SCRANTON, PA - The Wilkes men's swim team competed in day two of the Electric City Invitational today, adding three top ten finishes for a total of 13. The men concluded the Invitational in fourth place with 246 points.

The schools competing in the invitational along with Wilkes are King's, Messiah, Lycoming, Scranton, and SUNY Oneonta.

On day one, the Colonels recorded ten top ten finishes. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Colonels finished in fifth with a time of 1:31.95. On the relay were Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard), Leo Miller (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest), Alton Smargiassi (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), and Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton). In the 50 yard freestyle, Dainty placed seventh with a time of 23:00, and in the 200 yard freestyle, Miller placed tenth with a time of 1:55.04.

In the 200 yard medley relay, the Colones placed fifth by a time of 1:42.83, and took sixth in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.72. On the relays were Dainty, Smargiassi, Miller, and Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge). In the 100 yard backstroke, John Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) took eighth with a time of 1:03.87. Smargiassi placed sixth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.71 and Dainty took eighth with a time of 56.84. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Piotrowski finished in seventh with a time of 1:06.60 and Lewis took ninth with a time of 1:07.86.

On day two of the Invitational, Wilkes added three more top ten finishes to their total. In the 1650 freestyle, Caleb Keener (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) finished in fifth with a time of 19:11.40. In the 200 yard backstroke, Jacob Piotrowski (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) placed fifth with a time of 2:11.77. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the Colonels placed sixth with a time of 3:27.46. On the relay were Piotrowski, Miller, Lewis and Dainty.

As a team, the men and women finished in fifth place for a combined total score of 374 points. The Colones will be competing next at Elizabethtown on December 7.
