Wilkes Basketball Set to Face Lycoming in Conference Matchup

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will be taking on Landmark opponent Lycoming College tonight, with the men hosting the warriors and the women on the road. Both teams will tip off at 7 p.m.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are looking to improve to a 2-1 conference record following tonight's game against Lycoming. The men are coming off a 90-67 victory over Keystone on Saturday, improving their overall record to 6-1.

Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) leads the team in points, with a total of 175 so far on the season, averaging 25.0 points per game which has him sitting at second in the conference in scoring. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) follows with 99 and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) has recorded 92. Merrifield is 11th in the conference in scoring and Argento sits at 14th. Lesko leads the team and the conference in rebounds with 57 total and an 8.1 per game average. Merrifield leads in assists with 33 leaving him third in the conference and Argento leads in steals with 13, averaging 1.9 per game and good for fourth in the conference. 

On offense, Wilkes is averaging 79.1 points per game and is shooting .432 from the field. The Colonels have a .307 three point shooting percentage and sit fourth in the conference in three point field goals made with an average of 7.9 per game. The team is second in the conference in combined team rebounds with an average of 40.7 per game. Wilkes leads the conference in team offensive rebounds with 13.7 per game and is second in the conference in defensive rebounds with a 27.0 average per game.

Lycoming will be entering the game with a 1-6 overall record and 1-1 conference record. The Warriors are most recently coming off a 66-94 loss against King's. 

Leading the team in points is Hayden Pardoe, who is averaging 16.6 points per game and sits sixth in the conference in scoring. Isaiah Valentine follows with a 15.0 points per game average, leaving him at 10th in the conference in scoring. Pardoe also leads in rebounds with a 6.3 average and is seventh in the conference in rebounds. Valentine is fourth in the conference in assists with an average of 3.7 per game and Padoe leads in blocks and is fifth in the conference at 1.1 per game.

The Warriors are averaging 72.1 points per game and are shooting .427 from the field. They are third in the conference in three points made with 63 total and an average of 9.0 per game. Lycoming averages 9.3 offensive rebounds per game and 24.7 defensive rebounds per game. 

 

Women's Preview

The Colonels are looking for their first win of the season tonight against the Warriors as they enter the match with a 0-7 overall record and a 0-2 conference record, most recently falling to King's.

Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team in points with 75 total and a 15.0 points per game average, leaving her sitting at sixth in the conference in scoring. Matos also leads in rebounds with 34 total and an average of 6.8 per game for 12th in the conference and Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) has  recorded 28 total rebounds and a 5.6 per game average leaving her sitting at 16th in the conference. Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) is 10th in the conference in blocked shots, averaging .9 per game. 

The Colonels are averaging 40.0 points per game and are shooting .251 from the field and .156 on three point shots. Wilkes has a combined team rebound average of 34.0 per game, with an average of 7.3 offensive rebounds per game and 26.7 defensive rebounds per game.

Lycoming is also looking for their first win of the season, entering tonight's game with a 0-4 overall record and a 0-2 conference record, having most recently fallen to Elizabethtown. 

Ashley Yoh leads the Warriors in points with 52 total and an average of 13.0 per game, leaving her sitting at 10th in the conference in scoring. Meghan Dufner follows with 37 total points and an average of 12.3 points per game, good for 13th in the conference. Dufner also leads in rebounds and is eighth in the conference with 23 total and averages 7.7 per game. Yoh leads in blocked shots with 1.0 per game average for ninth in the conference and Mya Wetzel leads in steals at 13th in the conference, averaging 2.0 steals per game.

The Warriors are averaging 48.0 points per game and are shooting .303 from the field and .192 on three point shots. Lycoming has a combined team rebound average of 35.5 per game and average 10.0 offensive rebounds per game and 25.3 defensive rebounds per game.
