Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie at Alvernia
 
READING, PA – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team closed out the road portion of its regular season skating to a 1-1 tie at Alvernia University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) competition on Friday afternoon. The Golden Wolves earned the shootout victory over the Colonels, giving them two points in the UCHC standings while Wilkes received one point.
 
Wilkes moved its overall mark to 16-6-2, standing 11-6-2 in UCHC games. Alvernia owns an 11-9-4 overall record, 9-7-3 in league play.
 
After a scoreless first period, Alvernia struck first when Sydney Bradley found the back of the net off assists from Julia Franklin and Gillian Evans 4:46 into the second frame. Wilkes tied the game nine minutes later in the second when Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA) notched her 12th goal of the season thanks to helpers from Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) and Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT).
 
Neither team managed to score the equalizer over the third period and five minutes of overtime sending the game to a shootout to see who would claimed the extra point in the conference standings.
 
Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) began the shootout with a good attempt to give the Colonels the advantage. Alvernia's first successful attempt came on its third skater tying the shootout at one. Wierdsma made it two makes for Wilkes on the Colonels fifth attempt to give Wilkes a 2-1 lead. The hosts were successful on their next attempt and closed out the 3-2 win on the final attempt of the shootout.
 
The Colonels close out their regular season schedule hosting the Golden Wolves tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex.
