Wilkes Women's Swimming Completes Day Two of Landmark Conference Championships

BALTIMORE, MD – The Wilkes University women's swimming team completed day two of the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University Maryland on Friday. Wilkes is currently in ninth place out of 10 teams with 46 points.

The Colonels saw all five of their swimmers compete in individual events during the morning preliminary swims. The top eight swimmers in each prelim advanced to the night's Finals in the A Final and swimmers that placed ninth through 16th made the B Final.

Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 22nd of 37 swimmers in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:52.05 which was just over one second faster than her seed time. Audrey Cornell (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) was 32nd in the same race with a time of 6:59.34 which was over nine seconds quicker than her time in the event previously.

In the 200 IM, Brynn Ullerich (Omaha, NE/Marian) placed 24th of 32 swimmers with a time of 2:31.94.

In the 50 Freestyle, Mina Tutko (Easton, PA/Easton Area) was 26th of 37 swimmers with a time 27.87 and Kiaya Daube (Scranton, PA/Holy Cross) was 29th with a time of 29.21 which was almost a full second faster than her seed time.

During the Finals session at night the Colonels competed in the 400 Medley Relay with the team of Ullerich, Tutko, Burlew, and Daube shaving over 21 seconds off their time to finish in 4:40.07 and take eighth place out of 10 teams.

Wilkes is back in action for day three starting with the preliminary rounds of the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Backstroke at 12:15 p.m. after the time was pushed back due to morning inclement weather. The Finals on Saturday night feature the 200 Freestyle Relay.
