Verosko and Dainty Place in B Finals for Wilkes Men's Swimming on Landmark Conference Championships Day Three

BALTIMORE, MD – The Wilkes University men's swimming team saw its first two individuals swim their way into the finals on Saturday as the Colonels completed day three of the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University Maryland. Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) and Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) each qualified for a B Final.

Verosko placed second in the B Final of the 400 IM and 10th overall in the event out of 15 swimmers. In the final he swam a 4:36.69 which improved upon his prelim time earlier in the day of 4:41.89 and was 14 seconds faster than his seed time coming into the championships.

Dainty took sixth in the B Final of the 100 Backstroke and 14th overall in the event out of 24 total swimmers. The sophomore finished the final in a season best time of 57.47 which edged his prelim time of 57.56 and was over one second faster than his seed time.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay the team of Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly), Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard), Verosko, and Dainty dropped 3.38 seconds from their time earlier this season to finish with a 1:31.62 and place sixth of seven teams.

In the 100 Butterfly prelims Donato placed 20th of 29 swimmers with a 58.86 which was nearly seven seconds better than his seed time. Mason McCoy (Essington, PA/Interboro) was 22nd with a time of 59.30 which was over five seconds faster than his time coming in.

John Evans (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Lewis narrowly missed out on advancing to the B Final of the 100 Breaststroke as they placed 17th and 18th in the field of 27 with the top 16 advancing. Evans swam a 1:05.58 to better his seed time by over three seconds and Lewis swam a 1:06.20 which was nearly nine seconds faster than his time from earlier in the season.

The Colonels are in sixth place out of 10 teams with 88 total team points with one day left.

Wilkes is back in action for day four starting with the preliminary rounds of the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 Butterfly on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The Finals on Sunday evening, which start at 5:00 p.m., feature the 1650 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
