Wilkes Men's Swimming Places Sixth at First Landmark Conference Championships; Dainty and Verosko Make Sunday B Finals
BALTIMORE, MD – The Wilkes University men's swimming team completed its first trip to the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University Maryland on Sunday. The Colonels finished in sixth place out of 10 teams with 117 total team points.

Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) placed seventh in the B Final of the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:11.70 to place 15th of 18 swimmers in the event. He swam a 2:14.24 in the prelims Sunday morning to qualify.
Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) was eighth in the B Final of the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:29.62 to place 16th of 23 swimmers in the event. He swam a 2:29.75 in the prelims.
In the 400 Freestyle Relay to close the championships the team of
Owen Lewis (Ellicott City, MD/Howard),
Luke Donato (Westerly, RI/Westerly), Verosko, and Dainty placed sixth of seven teams with a time of 3:25.17 which was 7.99 seconds faster than their seed time.
In the preliminaries, Lewis placed 18th of 37 swimmers in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.14 which was over three seconds faster than his seed time. Donato was 19th with a time of 51.41 which was nearly three seconds better than his season's best.
Mason McCoy (Essington, PA/Interboro) was 22nd with a time of 54.27 which was over four seconds better than his seed time.
John Evans (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) was 25th with a finishing time of 58.48.
Catholic University placed first to take the team championship with 830.5 team points.
Wilkes concluded its 2023-24 season in which the team set a
program record with eight dual meet wins.
