Burlew Earns B Final Placement for Wilkes Women's Swimming on Day Three of the Landmark Conference Championships

BALTIMORE, MD – The Wilkes University women's swimming team saw its first individual swim their way into the finals on Saturday as the Colonels completed day three of the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University Maryland. Emma Burlew (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) qualified for the B Final of the 400 IM.

Burlew placed seventh in the B Final and 15th overall out of the 22 total swimmers participating in the 400 IM. She finished with a finals time of 5:16.27 which was over one second better than her prelim time of 5:17.40.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay the team of Brynn Ullerich (Omaha, NE/Marian), Burlew, Mina Tutko (Easton, PA/Easton Area), and Kiaya Daube (Scranton, PA/Holy Cross) dropped nearly six seconds from their time earlier this season to finish with a 1:48.53 and place seventh of 10 teams. Ullerich, Burlew, and Tutko all set personal best times within the relay.

In the 200 Freestyle prelims Daube placed 18th of 28 swimmers by cutting her seed time by over five seconds to finish in 2:28.37. Audrey Cornell (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) placed 23rd with a time of 2:35.15 which was better than her seed time of 2:35.53.

In the 100 Breaststroke prelims Tutko finished 21st of 24 swimmers with a time of 1:16.30.

Ullerich was 18th of 29 swimmers in the 100 Backstroke prelims with a time of 1:09.11 which was just over one second better than her best time this season. Cornell was 21st with a time of 1:26.85.

The Colonels are in ninth place out of 10 teams with 72 total team points with one day left.

Wilkes is back in action for day four starting with the preliminary rounds of the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 Butterfly on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The Finals on Sunday evening, which start at 5:00 p.m., feature the 1650 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
