Wilkes Men's Volleyball Drops Match at Lancaster Bible College

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wilkes men's volleyball team's four match winning streak came to an end Wednesday night, as they were bested by Lancaster Bible College on the road 3-0.

The Colonels fall to 10-3 on the year with the loss, while the Chargers improve to 4-9 with the victory.

Wilkes took an early 3-0 lead in the first set but found themselves trailing in the middle of the set 11-10. The Chargers opened the set up with a 7-1 run to take an 18-11 lead. Despite a valiant comeback, the Colonels were unable to overcome the deficit as the Chargers took the first set 25-22.

The teams traded points back and forth throughout the second set, but an early 3-0 run gave Lancaster Bible College the slight advantage 17-14. The Colonels got a 3-0 run of their own together thanks to two errors and a Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) kill that tied the set at 17. Another late run of three points gave the Chargers another lead that allowed them to take the second set 25-21.

Lancaster Bible College opened the third set with a 6-0 run, but a 6-2 Colonel run with kills by Paul Binner (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock), Noah Taylor (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional), and Shafer brought them within two points only down 6-8.  The Chargers responded with a 10-5 run to take an 18-11 lead en route to the set victory 25-16.

Shafer led the Colonels on offense and defense with 12 kills and five digs, while Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) registered 27 assists. Also, with his participation in the match, Binner set the program record for most career matches played in program history.

Jordan Yoder led the Chargers with 14 kills, Christian Herr led with 35 assists, and Tyler Martin led with 9 digs.

The Colonels return to the Marts Center on Saturday, February 24th for a tri-match with Lehman College and Mount Aloysius College that starts at 12:00 p.m.
