Wilkes Men's Basketball Rolls Over River Hawks on Milestone Afternoon for Fisher, Davidheiser

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes men's basketball team cruised to a monumental Landmark Conference victory over Susquehanna University at the Marts Center on Saturday, scoring a season-high 92 points on the way to victory.

The Colonels improve to 16-5 overall on the season and 9-5 in Landmark play, while Susquehanna falls to 14-7 overall and 11-3 against conference opposition.

Wilkes broke away early in the first half, putting together an 11-0 run to break a 6-6 deadlock and turn it into a 17-6 lead with 10 minutes to play in the half. The River Hawks found some offense in the latter portions of the half, but just could not keep up with the Colonels firepower as they stretched the lead to 21 points by the buzzer to take a 41-20 lead into the break.

During the first half of play, Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) hit a fadeaway jumper to score his 1,000th career point, and Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) hit two triples to push him over the 100 career three-pointer milestone. The Colonels hit four three-pointers in the half and shot over 50% from the field, generating 18 points off of turnovers in the process.

Susquehanna narrowly outscored the Colonels 23-22 as the first half went on, trailing 63-43 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. An 11-5 run saw the Colonels push the lead to 74-47 as Izzi Metz cleared the benches with just over six minutes left to play.

Travis Linn (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and Drew Sechleer (White Haven, Pa./Crestwood) made the most of the minutes, hitting three triples between them as the Colonels finished an emphatic 92-58 win with a 51-point second half. Wilkes improved on their shooting from the field going 20-27 in the second half and 6-8 from three.

Fisher led the way for Wilkes with a 16-point, 11 rebound double-double. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) and Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) all hit double-digit scoring on the day. Fisher and Merrifield shared the team-high in assists with five each.

Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) led the Colonels by going 3-4 from three-point range, while Davidheiser and Linn were both a perfect 2-2 from deep.

Marcus Mitchell led Susquehanna in scoring with 15 points and tied Steven Ressler for the team-high in rebounds with four. Mike Pirone led the River Hawks in assists with two.

The Colonels hit the road for their next two contests, first traveling to take on Drew University on Wednesday, February 7 in a game with massive Landmark Conference playoff implications. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
