Power Play Prowess Lifts Wilkes Women's Hockey Past Neumann 4-1 on Youth Hockey Night

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's ice hockey team was a perfect 2-2 on the power play as they extended their historic winning streak to nine games with a 4-1 victory over Neumann University on Youth Hockey Night at the Toyota SportsPlex.

Wilkes improves to 15-6-1 overall on the season and 10-6-1 in UCHC play, while the Knights fall to 4-16-2 overall and 0-15-2 in conference play.

Neumann opened the scoring 10:46 into the first period with a rebound goal scored by Gabby Massa and took that single-goal lead into the second period.

The Wilkes offense came alive in the second period after a Knight tripping penalty gave the Colonels a power play that Chase Hyndman capitalized on, lighting the lamp to even the score with only 5:15 played in the second frame. Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA) and Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) assisted Hyndman on her third goal of the season.

Another Neumann penalty at the end of the period, this time for hooking, led to another power play goal for the Colonels scored by Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) for her 16th goal of the season. Rissa Brazeau (Timmins, ON) and Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) assisted Bouchard on the goal that gave the Colonels a 2-1 lead 18:17 into the second period.

Ferry opened the third period with an unassisted goal at 5:22 to extend the Colonel lead to 3-1. Ferry was then called for a holding penalty at 9:08 and was shortly followed by another Colonel penalty this time for tripping. Wilkes' penalty kill unit easily handled the 5-on-3, and even put up the final goal of the game after an interference call on the Colonels at 14:47. Sabrina Kotlarczyk (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, QC) was the one to light the lamp at 15:53 to seal the 4-1 victory, assisted by Bouchard.

Ferry led the Colonels with nine shots and led from the faceoff circle as well with 13 wins. Audrey Milne (London, ON) made 17 saves in the victory.

Gia Santorello led Neumann with three shots, while Meg Landman led the Knights from the faceoff circle with 10 wins. Lian Sydorowicz had a team-high five blocks on the day. Ella Sciborski made 42 saves on the night.

The Colonels take on Neumann again on Saturday, February 10 to wrap up the season series with the Knights. Puck drop is set for 3:30 p.m.
