Wilkes Baseball Closes out Drew Series with 10-7 Victory

Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) sparked the offense with a three-run homer in the opening inning and
Wilton Abreu (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Liceo Americo Pérez Tolentino) enjoyed another strong outing on the mound recording his fourth win of the season as the Colonels posted a 10-7 Landmark Conference victory over Drew University to complete the season series with the Rangers on Sunday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes took the series 2-1 after the teams split the doubleheader yesterday. The Colonels improved to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in Landmark play while Drew fell to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in league games.
Luksic wasted little time giving the Colonels the lead when he connected on a three-run shot to left field plating
Luke Spencer (Lehman, PA/Lake Lehman) and
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) in the process.
Max Alessi (Wallenpaupack, PA/Wallenpaupack) added a sacrifice fly to give Wilkes a 4-0 lead after one inning.
Drew cut into the lead in the top of the third as an RBI single brought home one run for the guests.
Spencer singled through the left side scoring
Matthew Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) to up the advantage to 5-1 before Luksic added his fourth RBI of the day on his second at-bat when he grounded out to shortstop plating Spencer. Show then came around on a wild pitch to put the Colonels ahead 7-1 after four innings of play.
After Drew scored two runs in the fifth to trim the lead to 8-3, Wilkes responded with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to keep playing from ahead at 10-3. In the fifth,
Matthew Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) singled to right field scoring Alessi and in the sixth,
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) stole second where a Drew throw by the catcher got away into the outfield scoring Spencer on the play.
Jimmy Brazofsky (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) later hit a sacrifice fly scoring Show.
Drew made things interesting in the eighth scoring four runs on five hits to cut the advantage to 10-7, but
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) was able to record the final three outs in the top of the ninth using a double play groundout to seal the win for the Colonels.
Eight different Colonels reached the hit column as Spencer and
Matthew Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) each posted two hits. Luksic finished 1-for-4 with the homer and RBI groundout for a team-best four RBI's.
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Spencer combined to cross the plate six times in the win.
Abreu went six innings allowing four hits and two earned runs while strikeout out three to move to 4-0 on the season.
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) pitched the final out of the eighth and top of the ninth to record his third save of the year.
Wilkes looks to continue its hot start to Landmark play on Tuesday with a road test at the University of Scranton. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.
