Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Loses Final Home Contest of the Season Against Scranton
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes men's lacrosse team were bested in their final game at Schmidt Stadium this season, falling to the University of Scranton 22-6 on Wednesday night in Landmark Conference play.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 4-10 on the season with a 1-6 record in conference play, while the Royals improve to 8-7 on the year and 6-1 against conference opponents.
Scranton opened the contest with four unanswered goals before
Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) put the Colonels on the board with 7:04 remaining in the first quarter, assisted by
Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh). Hartka scored again in the second quarter, this time unassisted, with 9:57 in the second quarter to make it a 7-2 game. The Royals ended the quarter with five unanswered goals to take a 12-2 lead into the half.
The Colonels were unable to find the back of the net in the third quarter, but
Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) struck first in the final quarter with a solo effort to make it an 18-3 game. After three straight Royal goals,
Austin Seames (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) hit the back of the net with his eighth goal of the season to make it 21-4. Opromolla scored again to make it 21-5 Colonels, assisted by
J'Vier Johnson (Easton, PA/Easton Area), and assisted Sosnovik on the final goal of the game to make it a 22-6 contest. Unfortunately for a Colonel offense finding its stride, the game ended before they could score again.
Opromolla led the Colonels with a three-point performance (two goals, one assist), sharing the goalscoring lead with Hartka. Opromolla also led the team with seven ground balls, while
Brendan Keegan (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush) led the team with three caused turnovers.
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) was given the decision in net, making 18 saves in 45 minutes of action.
Kyle Holmes and Myles McCutcheon led Scranton scoring four goals each, while Ronan Miller led the team with seven ground balls. Declan Allen was given the victory in net with five saves.
The Colonels hit the road for their final two games of the season, starting with a trip to Elizabethtown College on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m.
