SCRANTON –  The Wilkes women's lacrosse team dropped their last road contest of 2024 to the University of Scranton 19-1 in their Landmark Conference tilt Wednesday afternoon at Weiss Field.

The Colonels fell to 2-13 overall and 0-7 in the Landmark. Scranton, who received votes in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, improved to 12-2 on the season. The Royals preserved their perfect conference record, which now stands at 7-0.

The Royals got off to a dominant start, rattling off ten unanswered goals in the first quarter. They outshot Wilkes 17-1 in the first 15 minutes of play, winning seven of ten draw controls in the frame. Goalkeeper Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) made two saves in net.

Scranton tacked on two goals in just over two minutes to begin the second quarter before the Colonels began to shore things up on defense. Ava Ward (Mount Pleasant, SC/Bishop England) and Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) scooped up ground balls to change possession in favor of Wilkes, while Fulling and Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) generated scoring opportunities on the other end of the field. Their efforts paid off when Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) ripped a shot to the back of the net for her twenty-first goal of the season. The 12-1 man-up goal came with 3:50 remaining in the half. The Royals would score once more prior to the horn to take a 13-1 lead into the half.

Scranton outshot Wilkes 23-4 while collecting seven ground balls and going a perfect 9-9 on clears. The Colonels were successful on six clears as Scott made three saves over the first 30 minutes.

The Royals scored a pair of unanswered goals in the third quarter to take a 15-1 lead. They added four more markers in the final 15 minutes to close out their 19-1 victory.

Cobham scored the lone goal for the Blue and Gold while Ward caused a team-high five turnovers, closely followed by Keara Dugey (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) with four. Scott and Brooklynn Donia (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) combined for eight saves in goal for Wilkes.

Erin Reich led the way for Scranton with three goals on three shots. Jillian Lopez, McKenna Moore, Catherine McGlynn and Grace Schnyder all caused a pair of turnovers as Lauren Boldis and Eva Guerino tallied four saves in the net.

The Colonels return home to Schmidt Stadium on Saturday, April 20 to host Elizabethtown College for their Senior Day game, which is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
