Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Wraps Up 2024 Campaign with Loss to Catholic
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes women's lacrosse team dropped the final game of their inaugural season in the Landmark Conference to Catholic University 20-2 on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
The Colonels fell to 2-15 on the season and finished 0-9 in the Landmark. The Cardinals advanced to 11-6, concluding conference play at 8-1.
Catholic put up 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter to take a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
The Cardinals opened the second quarter with a man-down goal, then tacked on three more before time expired in the first half. Heading into halftime, the visitors led 14-0.
Catholic outshot Wilkes 22-2 after 30 minutes, winning 11 draw controls and collecting 17 ground balls. The Colonels won four draw controls and went 5-11 on clearing attempts.
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) made eight saves in net for the Blue and Gold.
The Cardinals scored four goals in the third quarter to build the lead up to 18-0.

Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) netted her twenty-fourth goal of the season with an unassisted tally at 8:38 to put Wilkes on the board 20-1. The Colonels made it two unanswered goals when
Anmarie Lebron (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored on a fast break with 1:27 remaining in regulation. Lebron's second goal of the season brought the score to 20-2, where it would remain thanks to a last-second save by Colonel goalkeeper
Brooklynn Donia (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township).
Cobham and Lebron scored the Colonels' two goals while
Ava Ward (Mount Pleasant, SC/Bishop England) led the team with three shots on goal. She also registered a pair of caused turnovers, tying
Carley Yuhas (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) who also scooped up four ground balls. Scott and Donia combined for 12 saves in goal.
Charlotte Spaulding led the way for Catholic with six goals and one assist on the afternoon. Mattea Del Peschio and Lindsay Sawyer followed with two-goal performances of their own. Goalie Lauren Davidson made three saves for the Cardinals in the win.
