Wilkes Women's Tennis Ends Season in First Round Loss to Scranton
CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – The No. 6 seed Wilkes University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 5-0 defeat against No. 3 seed the University of Scranton in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Birchwood Racquet Club.
Wilkes finished the 2023-24 season, its first as a member of the Landmark Conference, with a 4-10 overall record and 4-5 in league play earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
Scranton rolled to a 3-0 lead after doubles play including a thrilling 8-6 victory at No. 1 pairs as Lily Nowak and Gisele Falzone outlasted
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer). The Royals then used an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and 8-5 decision at No. 3.
Scranton then took No. 3 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and another win at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-0 to clinch the match and advance to the semifinal round on Thursday.
