Wilkes Men's Tennis Concludes Season with 5-1 Defeat at Moravian in Landmark First Round
BETHLEHEM, PA – The No. 6 seed Wilkes University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end falling 5-1 at No. 3 seed Moravian University in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships Wednesday afternoon at Hoffman Courts.
The Colonels finished the year with a 6-8 overall record, finishing 4-5 in its first season in the Landmark. Moravian improved to 17-4 overall and will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 seed Drew University on Friday.
Moravian took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Wilkes No. 1 duo of
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) cruised to an 8-2 victory over Shayaan Farhad and Anthony Ronca. The Greyhounds then took No. 3 doubles 8-4 before an 8-6 win at No. 2 pairs.
Moravian then clinched the match with singles wins at No. 4 and No. 5 by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-4 respectively. Wilkes'
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) was winning his No. 2 singles match 6-4, 2-1 when play concluded.
