Wilkes Softball Swept at Drew, Miss Landmark Conference Playoffs
MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes softball team ended their first campaign in the Landmark Conference at Drew University on Saturday afternoon, dropping both games to the Rangers 4-0 and 3-1 at the Drew Softball Complex.
Wilkes finishes 21-15 overall on the year with a 7-9 record in Landmark play, while Drew finish 22-16 with an 8-8 record in conference play.
Drew opened the scoring in game one in the bottom of the second inning, using some small ball to take a 2-0 lead over the Colonels. The Rangers added two more runs in the sixth inning on a base hit to left field to cushion their lead to 4-0.
Wilkes put up nine hits on Drew, but tough defense meant runs crossed home plate, knocking the Colonels out of playoff contention with the loss.
Sami Hendershott (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) (7-3) was credited with the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with one strikeout in the complete-game effort. At the plate,
Hayden Calaman (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown Area),
Haylee Calaman (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown Area), and
Taylor Douple (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) all had multiple base hits in game one.
Teagan Bradley (10-7) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing nine hits with four strikeouts. Madi Baldwin led the Rangers at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Wilkes got on the board first in game two, with a ground out from Hayl. Calaman driving home
Megan Marshall (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) in the top of the third inning. Drew responded in their half of the inning with a single down the right field line to tie the game at 1-1.
Drew took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI double to right field to make the score 2-1. Another run in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed the Drew lead to 3-1.
Lauren DeMarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) (10-3) pitched the whole way for Wilkes and was given the loss, allowing three runs (earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts. Hayl. Calaman led the offense going 1-for-3 with the lone RBI of the game. Six Colonels registered hits in game two.
Allie Porbansky (5-7) picked up the win allowing one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts in a complete game effort. Fran O'Kleasky led the Ranger offense as the only player with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
